Blog Entry 01-10: The First Day
My internship is a Lincoln Child Center Kinship, which is a non-profit organization that is for caregivers raising relatives, such as grandparents raising grandchildren, aunts and uncles raising nieces and nephews, and siblings raising siblings. I found out about this organization through my grandmother, Carole. Since I already knew the staff it did not feel strange working with them. At my internship I have four tasks I need to do, research screen printing, make phone calls to remind clients of events, organize the emergency form binders, and organize the storage room. I will complete these tasks over my ten days as an intern.
Blog Entry 02-10: The Second Day
My mentors are Vince, Anna, and Deejae. Vince is the recreations coordinator, Anna is the person in charge of dealing with the data base, and Deejae is an editor. Anna became involved in this field by already being part of the Kinship program as a Kinship kid and then was offered a job there.
Blog Entry 03-10: The Third Day
My main responsibility at my internship was organizing client information binders on Tuesdays and help the navigators supervise the children when we went on trips on Saturdays. My title was an aviator; the aviators are volunteers. Tasks that I completed were organizing the storage room, organizing binders, and create a new emergency form binder. A regular day at my internship for me is getting there at 11:00am and then ask Anna or Deejae if there is anything they need me to do, if so then I do that first before I do anything else, if not then I research screen printing, finally I leave my internship at 5:00pm.
Blog Entry 04-10: The Fourth Day
For my WLE project I will design a t-shirt with a symbol for the aviators of Kinship. I came up with this idea when I started thinking that the aviators should have their own shirts like how the navigators do, plus I think it will be fun to make.
